H-2B hotel housekeeping jobs in the US allow qualifying overseas applicants to work legally for employers with temporary nonagricultural staffing needs. Hotels and resorts may use the program for busy tourism seasons when sufficient qualified US workers are unavailable.
An employer-sponsored work visa requires more than a job offer. The employer must complete labor certification and the immigration petition process, while the applicant must qualify for a visa and admission. Housing, recruitment fees and permanent residence claims deserve careful verification.
What Is the H-2B Visa?
H-2B is a temporary work visa for nonagricultural employment. Employers generally need a temporary, full-time position of at least 35 hours weekly. Temporary need normally lasts nine months or less, except qualifying one-time occurrences.
The regular annual cap is 66,000 workers. Supplemental allocations and exemptions can change, so a published hotel vacancy does not guarantee an available visa number. Workers cannot independently purchase an H-2B work permit without qualifying employer sponsorship.
Housekeeping Jobs and Other Eligible Roles
| Role | Common duties |
|---|---|
| Room attendant | Clean bedrooms and bathrooms |
| Housekeeper | Change linen and replenish supplies |
| Public-area cleaner | Maintain lobbies and corridors |
| Laundry attendant | Wash, dry and organise hotel linen |
| Houseperson | Move supplies and support cleaning teams |
Each role requires its own approved duties and temporary staffing justification. Not every hotel vacancy qualifies, particularly permanent year-round positions.
Construction laborers, carpenters and other trades may also be considered under H-2B when the employer meets the temporary nonagricultural requirements. However, a housekeeping petition does not authorize unrelated construction work. Verify the occupation and worksite in the approved job documents.
Salary Ranges for Hotel Housekeepers
Three published 2026 DOL listings provide practical wage examples:
| Hotel | Advertised hourly wage |
|---|---|
| Sugarloaf Mountain Hotel | $17.28 |
| Olde Naples Hotel | $17.42 to $18.50 |
| Isla Bella Beach Resort | $18 to $19 |
These are specific job-order rates, not a nationwide salary range or guaranteed current vacancies. Hours, experience and lawful deductions affect earnings.
At $18 for 40 paid hours, illustrative gross pay is $720 weekly or approximately $3,118 monthly using 4.33 weeks. This is before taxes and accommodation costs. Seasonal contracts should not be advertised as guaranteed annual income.
Employers must comply with applicable H-2B wage obligations. Overtime must be paid where legally required. For example, Olde Naples Hotel’s order specifies overtime rates of $26.13 to $27.75 when available. Extra hours are not guaranteed.
Housing, Transportation and Employment Benefits
Unlike H-2A agricultural employment, H-2B hotel work does not carry a general requirement for free employer-provided housing. Some hotels offer shared accommodation, while others expect employees to arrange their own.
Olde Naples Hotel’s order describes possible optional shared housing at $125 to $250 weekly, subject to availability. Deposits or an administrative/cleaning fee may also apply. Daily transportation is not provided under that listing.
Before accepting, obtain written answers about rent, deposits, utilities, room occupancy, commuting and payroll deductions. Do not assume employer-arranged housing is free.
H-2B rules require reimbursement of qualifying visa and related fees in the first workweek, excluding expenses such as personal passports. Inbound travel and subsistence are generally reimbursed after completing 50% of the contract, although minimum-wage rules may require earlier reimbursement. Return travel obligations also apply in qualifying circumstances.
The regulations contain a three-fourths hours guarantee, but DOL’s published guidance notes appropriations restrictions on its enforcement. Read the contract and seek advice if hours fall substantially below the offer.
Temporary employment benefits are not permanent settlement benefits. Check separately whether meals, health insurance or other benefits are included.
Eligibility Requirements for Overseas Applicants
Applicants need a genuine sponsored position, must meet its requirements and must qualify under US immigration law.
There is no universal university degree or IELTS requirement in the standard temporary-worker visa checklist. Individual employers can require English ability, experience and physical fitness for the duties.
Sugarloaf’s order requests three months of experience, basic English speaking and reading skills, and the ability to perform physically demanding cleaning duties. Isla Bella also requests three months of relevant housekeeping experience.
For Nigerian applicants, the State Department’s published 2026 partial visa suspension covers B-1/B-2, F, M and J visas and immigrant visas. H-2B is not among those listed categories. Nevertheless, check current restrictions, appointment arrangements and employer recruitment policy before spending money.
Requirements and Documents
Prepare:
- A valid passport meeting applicable validity rules.
- DS-160 confirmation page.
- Visa appointment confirmation and fee receipt where required.
- A photograph meeting US visa specifications.
- Petition receipt number and available I-797 approval information.
- Written job offer and full employment order.
- CV, experience references and any required certificates.
- Evidence supporting temporary travel and return plans if requested.
Follow the consulate’s checklist. A hotel background check is separate from visa processing. Do not assume every H-2B applicant needs an immigrant medical examination or police certificate.
Steps to Get H-2B Visa Sponsorship
- Search SeasonalJobs.dol.gov for housekeeper, room attendant or hotel cleaner roles.
- Review wages, duties, housing costs, experience requirements and dates.
- Ask whether the employer accepts first-time overseas applicants from your country, rather than only workers already in the US.
- Confirm the named recruiter directly with the employer.
- The employer obtains the required wage determination, conducts US recruitment and applies for temporary labor certification.
- After certification, the employer files the appropriate USCIS petition.
- Once approved, complete DS-160 and follow embassy appointment instructions.
- Attend the interview and travel only after approval, following the authorized employment and admission conditions.
DOL job listings support verification but do not prove USCIS approval, available visa numbers or remaining vacancies. Administrative processing can delay a start date.

Yummy Jobs recruits hospitality workers. However, its Winter 2026 update says it does not currently anticipate recruiting out-of-country candidates. Overseas applicants should monitor official updates rather than assume registration creates an immediate opportunity.
Alliance Abroad
Address on its main contact page: 2021 E 5th Street, Suite 100, Austin, TX 78702.

The organisation has international recruitment operations. Ask specifically about H-2B housekeeping recruitment for your country. Its participant website lists a different suite, so confirm the address before visiting.
Verify recruitment authorization through the employer and DOL’s Foreign Labor Recruiter List. Inclusion on that list is not government endorsement or proof of compliance.
Permanent Residence and Skilled Migration Options
H-2B does not automatically lead to a green card. Returning for several seasons does not create a guaranteed permanent residence pathway.
A separate EB-3 employer-sponsored green card process may be relevant for qualifying permanent employment. The Other Workers category covers eligible nonseasonal positions requiring less than two years of training or experience. A seasonal housekeeping contract alone is insufficient.
Labor certification, an I-140 immigrant petition, visa availability and admissibility requirements generally apply. Visa backlogs and nationality restrictions can affect processing. Nigerian applicants should examine the separate immigrant-visa suspension before buying an EB-3 sponsorship package.
Express Entry and the Rural Community Immigration Pilot are Canadian immigration programs, not US pathways. They cannot convert an H-2B visa into American residence.
Canadian alternatives to research include Express Entry, RCIP and the Provincial Nominee Program. Apply through official IRCC or provincial channels. RCIP requires the relevant participating community and designated employer, so there is no universal recruitment-office address. The correct contacts depend on the program and destination.
Applying at the Embassy and Verifying a Work Visa
| US mission in Nigeria | Address and main phone |
|---|---|
| Embassy Abuja | 1075 Diplomatic Drive, Central District. +234-209-461-4328 |
| Consulate Lagos | 2 Walter Carrington Crescent, Victoria Island. +234-201-460-3400 |

Use the mission’s visa section for current processing locations, appointment links and enquiry contacts. The numbers above are main switchboards.
Complete DS-160 through https://ceac.state.gov. Verify employment details at https://seasonaljobs.dol.gov. Petition approval does not guarantee a visa, and a visa does not guarantee admission.
Recruitment Fees and Immigration Errors to Avoid
Employers and their agents must not charge workers prohibited recruitment fees or transfer employer petition and certification costs to them.
Avoid guaranteed-visa claims, false references, undisclosed housing deductions, unverified payment requests and promises of automatic permanent residence. Do not assume a housekeeping petition authorizes a second job or unrelated construction work.
Keep contracts, receipts and messages. Contact DOL’s Wage and Hour Division at 1-866-487-9243 for US employment-rights concerns.
A licensed US immigration lawyer can assess complex eligibility issues. Visa consultants and relocation services cannot grant approval or bypass the visa cap. Request written fees, refund terms and credentials before purchasing services. If comparing international health insurance, check work-related exclusions and existing employer coverage first.
