Bricklayer jobs in the Netherlands include general masonry, sand-lime blockwork and pointing or repointing. Verified advertisements reviewed offer €2,620 to €3,250 gross monthly for a training role, €575 net weekly for an experienced pointer, and up to €650 weekly for skilled bricklayers. Applicants may need practical experience, safety certification and existing Dutch work rights. For most non-EU applicants, employer support involves meeting labour-market requirements and obtaining work authorization. Direct vacancy links below identify which opportunities require existing permission and where sponsorship remains unconfirmed.
1. Jobs and pay at a glance
These are advertised figures from specific vacancies, not a national salary scale. All amounts are in euros.
| Job | Verified advertised pay | Typical qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Sand-lime masonry trainee, Intro EU Staffing | €2,620 to €3,250 gross/month | Beginners accepted; existing work rights required |
| Bricklayer/pointer, Skills Provision | €575 net/week, 40 hours | At least four years’ experience |
| Experienced bricklayer, Haldu Groep | Up to €650/week, 40 hours; gross/net unspecified | Proven bricklaying experience |
Intro’s advertisement describes salary progression from €2,620 initially to €2,850 after six months and €3,250 after one year. Skills Provision explicitly describes its figure as after tax. Haldu’s maximum depends on conditions including three years of Dutch experience and having your own car. See the respective Intro vacancy, Skills Provision vacancy and Haldu vacancy. Intro EU Staffing
Compare the complete package. Ask for gross contractual pay, guaranteed hours, holiday allowance, overtime rates and every accommodation, transport or insurance deduction. A weekly net quotation alone does not show whether two offers are equivalent.
2. Which jobs match your experience?
Beginners and construction helpers
Look for training roles rather than vacancies requiring independent production. Intro’s sand-lime masonry position accepts newcomers and pairs them with an experienced colleague. However, it requires EU citizenship or an existing valid Dutch work permit.
This distinction matters: being qualified for training does not mean an employer will obtain immigration permission for you.
Experienced bricklayers
Your CV should demonstrate the work you can complete independently:
- Facing brickwork, cavity walls and blockwork.
- Reading drawings and maintaining line, level and alignment.
- Mortar preparation, insulation and moisture barriers.
- Repair work and safe use of tools.
Provide dated references and photographs of your own projects, with permission where necessary.
Pointing and restoration workers
Pointing vacancies focus on joints and finishing rather than laying new walls. Skills Provision’s Eindhoven role requires four years’ experience, intermediate English, pointing tools and transport for site travel.
Safety certificates and qualifications
The reviewed vacancies commonly request VCA, a construction safety qualification, or willingness to obtain it. Intro also requests GPI safety induction. These are separate from immigration permission.
Do not assume you need Canadian-style provincial licensing. Check any formal recognition requirement through the Dutch government’s foreign qualification guidance, then ask the employer which trade and site certificates it accepts. NetherlandsWorldwide

4. How employer-supported work authorization works
EU, EEA and Swiss applicants
These nationals generally do not need a Dutch work permit. A valid passport or national identity document is required. Government.nl
Applicants who need a new work permit
For ordinary employment exceeding three months, the usual route is the GVVA, a combined residence and work permit. For shorter employment, an employer generally applies for a TWV, with entry requirements considered separately.
The employer normally must demonstrate that no suitable worker is available in the EEA or Switzerland. Government guidance specifies a vacancy advertising period of at least five weeks, or at least three months for difficult-to-fill vacancies. A construction labour shortage does not automatically remove these requirements. Government.nl
The documents have different functions:
- Job offer: Sets out proposed employment. It does not authorize work.
- GVVA: Combines permission to reside and work under specified conditions.
- TWV: Employment permission applied for by the employer.
- MVV: A long-stay entry visa required by some nationalities, normally handled alongside the residence application.
There is no Canadian LMIA process in the Netherlands. For ordinary bricklaying, investigate the paid-employment route rather than assuming a “highly skilled migrant” label applies.
The IND GVVA page explains the application procedure. The employer can apply while the worker is abroad; a worker application is also possible. Employer cooperation remains essential. IND
5. Eligibility, documents and likely costs
Prepare your employment evidence
Have these ready for recruitment:
- A clear CV showing dates, employers and masonry specialisms.
- References and relevant trade certificates.
- VCA or other safety certificates, if held.
- Driving licence details.
- Photographs demonstrating workmanship.
For immigration, follow the current application form’s checklist. Expect passport information, employment evidence and applicable declarations. Foreign official documents may require legalization and translation. The IND guide to working in the Netherlands explains how to identify the required evidence. ind.nl
Separate worker expenses from employer responsibilities
Worker budget: Allow for passport renewal, required translations or legalization, travel and initial living expenses unless the contract covers them. Certificate costs and relocation reimbursement depend on the offer. Dutch health insurance is generally compulsory for people living or working in the country, so budget for premiums. Government.nl
Employer responsibilities: These include the required recruitment evidence, employment terms and cooperation with authorization. IND’s GVVA conditions also include arranging appropriate housing. Arranged housing does not necessarily mean free housing. IND
Government application fee: The ordinary GVVA application currently costs €423. Agree who pays before proceeding. IND states that an employer who pays this application fee may not charge it back to the worker. Fees and exceptions should be checked again at submission. IND
6. Can bricklaying employment lead to permanent residence?
Potentially, through qualifying lawful residence, not through a special bricklayer immigration programme.
The IND permanent residence rules generally require five consecutive years of valid Dutch residence, compliance with permit conditions, a qualifying current residence purpose, sufficient income and civic integration unless exempt. IND also assesses eligibility for EU long-term resident status.
A job offer does not guarantee permanent residence. Renew permits on time and check how absences or changes in residence purpose affect eligibility. ind.nl
7. How to apply, step by step
- Search by trade. Use “bricklayer”, metselaar, voeger for pointer, and kalkzandsteen for sand-lime masonry.
- Check immigration eligibility first. If you lack Dutch work rights, ask whether the employer will support a new GVVA before paying for certificates or travel.
- Tailor your CV. Match your evidence to the advertised materials, techniques and experience requirements.
- Verify the employer and offer. Establish the legal employing company, worksite, gross wage, hours and deductions.
- Agree responsibilities in writing. Clarify permit submission, fees, housing, transport and the proposed start date.
- Follow the official route. Submit the required immigration evidence and complete biometrics or MVV steps as instructed.
- Travel and start work only when authorized. Follow the decision letter and permit conditions.
For applicants using Nigeria’s MVV collection process, NetherlandsWorldwide’s Nigeria instructions explain appointments. Collection in Nigeria must be permitted by the IND approval letter. NetherlandsWorldwide
8. Common mistakes and job-offer verification
Check the business through the Dutch Chamber of Commerce, then independently contact the company using its published details. Registration alone does not prove that a recruiter or offer is genuine.
Watch for:
- Guaranteed visas or permanent residence.
- Requests to pay a personal account for a “reserved permit”.
- Instructions to enter as a tourist and begin working.
- An offer without a named employer or written wage.
- Claims that free housing proves sponsorship.
- Pressure to pay before an interview or contract review.
A genuine company can be impersonated. Confirm the recruiter’s identity directly with its office.
9. FAQs
Is Dutch compulsory?
It depends on the employer and site. Some reviewed roles accept English, while Haldu accepts English or German. Learn essential Dutch safety vocabulary even where English is sufficient.
Does a residence permit from another EU country let me work in the Netherlands?
Do not assume so. Residence permission and EU citizenship are different. Ask the employer to verify your Dutch work authorization before accepting a start date.
Can I avoid the work permit process by registering as self-employed?
Business registration does not itself grant immigration permission. Freelance work requires residence and work rights appropriate to that activity.
What must I arrange after arrival?
For a stay exceeding four months, register with the municipality where you live. Also arrange applicable Dutch health insurance. The government’s moving checklist explains these practical requirements. Government.nl
